Jonas St. Michael was born in Canada and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Goldsmiths, University of London and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University in Montreal. His photography and video practice examines the nature of representation and its relation to wider cultural and social contexts. More recently, his practice has shifted to making photographic and video works that are conspicuously constructed with the aim of creating an ostensible reality.


He has exhibited nationally and internationally including Haus am Lützowplatz (Berlin), OK Harris (New York City) and MOMENTA | Biennal de l'image (Montréal). He has received grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and The Canada Council for the Arts.


He was an artist-in-residence at The British School at Rome (2016) and at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn, New York (2018).
