Jonas St. Michael was born in Canada and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Goldsmiths, University of London and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University in Montreal. His photography and video-based practice examines the nature of representation and narrativity and its relation to wider social contexts. More recently, his practice has shifted to making photographic and video works whose content is conspicuously constructed with the aim of creating a seeming reality.

He has exhibited nationally and internationally including Haus am Lützowplatz (Berlin), OK Harris (New York City) and MOMENTA | Biennal de l'image (Montréal) among others. He has received grants from The Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

He was an artist-in-residence at The British School at Rome (2016) and at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn, New York (2018).
